Frequently Asked Questions

Course Overview & Requirements

What is the HAZWOPER 24-Hour course?

The 24-Hour HAZWOPER course, per OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(3), provides essential training for workers who are occasionally exposed to hazardous substances but not expected to face high-risk contamination levels. It blends classroom instruction with limited hands-on exercises to ensure safety and compliance.

How is the 24-hour course different from the 40-hour HAZWOPER course?

The 40-hour course is required for workers who will have frequent or high-level exposure to hazardous substances and must wear full protective gear (Levels A–C). The 24-hour course, in contrast, is for those with occasional or lower-risk exposure who are not required to wear respirators or fully encapsulating suits.

Who needs this certification?

This course is designed for workers who visit or perform tasks on hazardous waste sites occasionally—such as equipment operators, general laborers, and supervisors who will not be directly involved in high-hazard cleanup or emergency response. If you are exposed **occasionally** but not expected to need Level A or B PPE, this is the right course for you.

What are the prerequisites?

The 24-hour course does not require prior HAZWOPER training as a prerequisite. It is an entry-level certification for workers who need initial training to work safely on hazardous waste sites.

How long is HAZWOPER certification valid?

Certification remains valid for 12 months. OSHA requires you to complete an 8-hour HAZWOPER Refresher annually to maintain compliance.

Is the course OSHA-accepted?

Yes. All training provided by HAZWOPER Training USA meets or exceeds OSHA’s 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(3) requirements and is recognized nationwide.

Training Experience & Format

What’s included in the 24-hour course?

The program includes OSHA regulatory overview, hazard recognition, toxicology basics, site control, PPE overview, decontamination methods, and emergency response planning. You’ll gain the foundational safety knowledge required for low-to-moderate risk environments.

How long is the course?

Three consecutive 8-hour days (totaling 24 hours) with both classroom-based instruction and limited practical demonstrations.

What’s the average class size?

Our sessions typically range between 15-20 students for focused, personalized instruction.

Does training include hands-on field time?

Yes. While the focus is primarily classroom-based, you’ll participate in light field demonstrations—such as PPE inspection, air monitoring basics, and mock site control setups—to reinforce safety concepts.

Equipment, Materials, and Bilingual Options

Is PPE required for this training?

No full PPE ensemble is required. However, basic PPE demonstrations are provided for familiarization purposes. Workers who expect to wear respirators or full suits should instead complete the 40-Hour HAZWOPER course.

Is the course offered in Spanish?

Yes. Select sessions are offered in English and Spanish to ensure complete comprehension and compliance.

Do I received course materials or manuals?

Yes. Each participant receives a printed or digital course manual covering all modules, reference charts, and quick compliance

checklists for future field use.

How long do I have access to course materials?

All students receive access to refresher materials and digital resources for 12 months following completion.

Will I be ready to work after completing the course?

Yes—if your role falls within OSHA’s 24-hour category (occasional exposure, limited PPE). Upon completion, you’ll be certified to perform those duties immediately.
